Housekeeping Tips - write to me with questions...

Avoid being poisoned - by rat urine, pesticides and even accumulation of fruit wax..
1.  Rinse a towel with a little antibacterial dishwashing liquid (mama greetea for eg) and wipe all your canned food and drinks before storing them in the cupboards- this not only removes whatever is on the cans but also prevents further  contamination. ( rinsing the cloth with dettol is also good)
2.  Wipe your eggs with a damp towel to remove whatever is on it...before storing into the fridge - the eggshell is porous and whatever is sticking on the shell eventually gets into the egg
3.  Remove, stickers, tags - wash and dry all fruit before storing into the fridge -   Add a little vinegar into the wash to clean more effectively.
4, Wash and leave your vegetables to air-dry(leave the aircon or fan on) and then wrap in clean towels before storing - vegetables have pesticides on them , imagine allow these pesticides to dry and become concentrated in your fridge if you pop them in straight from the shopping bag.... Besides, you will also contaminate your clean fruit.
5.  Avoid using newspapers  to wrap your veg... you don;t know where it;s been.  instead use cleanly laundered towels (no softeners please) . these not only keep your veg from rotting but they are hygienic and reusable

REMOVING PET HAIR ?

3M lint rollers work best but......

they do cost you quite a bit.

a cheaper alternative ?  masking tape... trust me on this.  I have 5 cats and i don't believe in vacuum cleaners so the masking tape keeps my home hair free.

Another useful item to have is the squeegee mop... you get to mop and sweep at the same time and it removes all pet and human hair on the floor with one wipe.

Unfortunately, many, including my mum do not know how to use it.  You are supposed to keep the mop at about 45 degree angle and pull it towards you and repeating systematically across the room until the mop is loaded with hair and dirt (use both sides).  Then simply rinse it off under a tap and squeeze using the attached lever.  Do remember to have a strainer in the sink to prevent clogging of the pipes

Environmentally Friendlier Advise

Use vinegar instead of strong window and glass cleaners,

Toothpaste is great for whitening grout instead of using strong clorox based cleaners.

THROWING A PARTY ?

Stop using those paper , plastic and foam plates.

Use environmentally friendly corn plates.. from Olivegreen  -stronger than  plastic but 100% bio-degradable... call or write to me if you need a small number, but go direct to their website www.olivegreen.com.sg  if you want to order a whole carton.  They have drinking cups, forks, spoons, lunch boxes and plates.
